‘We are very happy with the way the school has managed the situation and that you have kept the school open. Communication has also been very good’ (Year 2 Parent), ‘Very happy with how the school tries to make the kids feel normal during these challenging times’. (Year 4 Parent)

Students in the Primary School at RIS follow the National Curriculum of England from Year 1 to 6. In 2014 the curriculum was updated in the United Kingdom to facilitate a broader depth of study in English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology, Art, Music, and Physical Education. In  addition, from Year 3 upwards students learn either French or Mandarin.

Literacy is an essential element in all curriculum areas and teachers ensure that whatever a child’s background, language barriers to learning are dismantled or removed as students develop mathematical, scientific geographical, artistic, musical literacy as well as making rapid and significant progress in reading and writing in English.

Throughout Primary, students learn Arabic as a first or additional language and Muslim students are taught Islamic Studies. From Year 2, Moral Education and Social Studies are introduced which explore ethics, world history and geography. All of these subjects follow the UAE National Curriculum.

One of our aims in the Primary School is to help and encourage students to make connections as their young minds are developing. To this end, teachers plan lessons with cross-curricular themes and links to the ‘real world’. Teachers plan creative, flexible lessons that engage students’ different senses and challenge each child to connect prior learning with current concepts and work at their own pace with the encouragement, guidance, and support of their teachers.
